Gaines V Young

The more experienced Gaines easily over-whelmed local opponent Tiffany Young
at Whiskey Tango's in Grain Valley, MO on May 26, 2005. Once again, Sharon
had an unusual match up in height and weight. The 5'8" Young was to weigh in
at 120lbs. Gaines made weight the night before while Young showed up the day of
the fight at 128lbs.

Young came out throwing some hay-makers in round 1 and was very active for
the first part of the round. Gaines kept her defense tight and waited until
her opponent wore down, then she took control to finish off round 1
on the attack with some well-placed punches. After that it was Gaines'
night as she continued to land squarely to the face and body of Young, who
didn't have much movement, but did try to consistently counter-punch, to no
avail.

"I give her credit for her toughness, in a street-fighting kind of way,"
said Gaines. "She definitely knows how to fight, but doesn't know how to
box. Her lack of conditioning definitely helped me have an easy night, but
I've still got lots to work on.  Next up at the gym, I've got to learn to
step into my punches a little more and stay inside so I can stop my
opponent. This fight should not have lasted 4 rounds!"
