September 27, 2008: Gaines v Dunaway II

Sharon had a chance to re-match Holly Dunaway in Las Vegas.  Gaines was hoping for fair judging, this being their second match up, and being that the venue was now Las Vegas, not Holly's hometown of St. Louis.

FOILED!! Holly moved to Las Vegas earlier in 2008 after the first boxing match with Sharon.  Not only would she be announced as a hometown fighter, she was signed with the show promoter, Richard Steele.  On top of that, it was a "private/closed" show and no tickets were available for sale. Therefore Sharon's fans and clients in Las Vegas were not allowed to attend.

Gaines was announced first entering the ring, Dunaway was announced second, as the favored fighter, "fighting out of Las Vegas for Richard Steele promotions."  (FYI:  The judges are not assigned by the state, but rather HIRED by Richard Steele Promotions).

The fight seemed to be in Sharon's hands for all six rounds. She was able to out-jab and out-hustle Holly.  She had ring-generalship, was more active, and pushed the pace of the fight. The end of round 3 Holly did land a couple nice shots right as the bell rang, but that was after Sharon dominated the first 1:45 of the round. In round 4 Holly found a lead straight right hand that was able to land a couple times, but then, as Sharon figured it out, it became ineffective.

By rounds 5 & 6 Sharon had the desire to win and had Holly backing up and out of air.  The only mistake I could see Sharon make was that she wanted it so bad that she rushed some shots and stepped in too close on some big punches where she was not able to follow up with any knock out shots. She won the battle inside every time, with Holly holding the ref yelling at them to "box out of it." Had Sharon not "smothered" her punches she may have landed more devastating shots when the two were inside.

All that being said, the judges scored the fight as a majority draw. This drew boos from the crowd. One judge had it in Gaines' favor, but the two others had it tied.
